Temple Legend - Located in Nadunadu, this is the 23rd Shiva sthalam, revered by Sage Agasthya. The presiding deity is known as Agastheeswarar. It is believed that on the auspicious day of Mahashivarathri, Nandikeswara offers worship to Goddess Akhilandeswari. This sacred site holds significance as Sage Sugabrahma sought solace from stomach pain through his worship here. According to the Sthala Purana, even Adisesha, the divine serpent, worshipped the Lord of this holy abode.

Temple Layout - The Chola kings constructed the temple, which is approximately 1500 years old. It is customary to refer to the Chola kings as 'Killi'. It is believed that the name Killiyanur may have originated from this. Unlike other temples, this temple lacks a Rajagopuram or flag post. The entrance of the Agastheeswarar shrine is adorned with images of Dwarapalakas on both sides. Mother Akhilandeswari is worshipped in a separate shrine. The outer prakara houses the shrines of Krodhana Bhairavar and Kaala Bhairava, which are situated next to each other. Sage Agastya, who revered the Lord of this location, has a distinct shrine dedicated to him. Within the sanctum sanctorum, the goshta murthas include Dakshinamurthy and Goddess Durga. Additionally, there are shrines for various deities such as Vinayaka, Gajalakshmi, Muruga with His consorts Valli and Deivanai, Mahavishnu, Brahmma, Navagraha, Surya, and Chandra. The Vanni tree serves as the sacred tree of this temple.

The pathikam for this place composed by Thirugnana Sambandar is in the 3-rd thirumurai.
