Temple: This Shivasthalam is one of the Sapthavitanga Shrines of Thyagarajar and covers an area of about 2 acres with a 3 tier gopuram and single prakaram. Sun God Sooriyan is said to have worshipped Lord Voimoornathar here and it is interesting to note that the sun's rays strike the inside of the sanctum on the 12th and 13th day of the Tamil month of Pankuni. The shrine for Thyagarajar is found to the south of the main sanctum. There are also shrines for Bhairavar (in 7 forms) and for Dakshinamurthy.
The main deity in this temple is Vaimurnathar. The lingam is extremely small, and is always kept covered with a kavacham. His consort is Ksheera Vachana Nayaki as known in Sankrit. The Vidangar here is the Neela Vidangar, and the Abhishekam is performed at 9:30 AM everyday. However, this again is not the original one, but an emerald one substituted long ago for the one that was stolen. In addition to this, a Spatika lingam has also been installed. An interesting thing about this temple was the presence of Ashta Bhairavars – eight forms of Kala Bhairavar.
